Grossaffoltern school facility is installed

20. Okt 2022

In Grossaffoltern, the school complex is being expanded with a new building containing classrooms for the entry level. To ensure that the construction phase progresses as quickly as possible, the timber construction elements are prefabricated. For this, planning accurate to the millimeter is the be-all and end-all. The entire construction work of the school space organization Grossaffoltern (new building as well as reconstruction of the existing school building) will take about two years and should be finished by the end of 2024. In a first step, a new one-story timber building with the classrooms for the entrance level will be built along the Schulhausstrasse, completely detached from the existing building. The new building can be followed live here: LINK

The building - a design by Bienert Kintat Architects

Inside the school building, the cross laminated timber panels remain mostly visible. This requires particularly precise and careful work in production and on the construction site. It gives the school building a particularly pleasant indoor climate, which has a positive effect on everyday school life. The offset floor plan and the round windows in the roof and exterior walls give the building its unique character. More about the design can be found on the website of Bienert Kintat Architekten.

At the school building in Grossaffoltern, a total of 127m3 is planned in the attic as a canopy with TS3.

The factory planning - for a smooth construction

A great advantage of timber construction is the fast construction speed thanks to high prefabrication. For smooth production of the cross laminated timber boards and the timber construction elements, seamless planning is the be-all and end-all.

For the new building in Grossaffoltern, we prepared the workshop planning with production and element plans, control and correction plans as well as assembly plans in the SIA phase 51 execution project. According to these plans, the cross laminated timber panels were processed and the timber elements were manufactured. This enables the fast and frictionless erection of the timber structure. There is no more rolling planning even during the construction of the building, as is often the case with solid buildings. This saves costs and time.
