Tour of the “Im Zelg” residential complex in Uster

The “Im Zelg” residential development is being built in Uster, Canton of Zurich, featuring five apartment buildings and 164 rental units. For sustainability reasons, the investor subsequently decided to construct the buildings—originally planned as masonry structures—entirely using timber construction. Thanks to the collaboration between Rhomberg Bau AG, Renggli AG, and Timber Structures 3.0 AG, the project was successfully redesigned on schedule despite its advanced stage of development. TS3 technology enables a statically two-axially braced timber structure, allowing the rooms to be designed without visible beams. The five buildings are nearly identical and logically structured, making them ideally suited for serial production due to the repetition effect. Thanks to the high degree of prefabrication in timber system construction, the construction time can be shortened, which consequently has a positive impact on costs. The first two buildings were ready for occupancy in March 2025, and the apartments are already fully leased today. The remaining buildings will be ready for occupancy in fall 2025 and spring 2026.

Important Information

• Please note that the shell construction tour will take place on a construction site. Please wear appropriate footwear. We will provide you with a hard hat and a high-visibility vest. Due to the cold weather, we recommend wearing warm clothing (unheated rooms).
• The number of participants is limited to three people per company. This restriction allows different companies to participate in the event, as we have only a limited number of spots available. We will contact you if your company exceeds the participant limit.
• Do not climb onto the scaffolding. Participants are responsible for their own insurance.

The residential complex is about a 10-minute walk from Uster train station. Alternatively, take bus line 816 from Uster train station to the “Uster, Will” bus stop. The residential complex is about a 2-minute walk from the bus stop.
